Festivals

Nepal's festivals are old, mystiacl, colorful and enjoyable. In February or March the Maha Shivaratri is celebrated. It is the wedding anniversary of Loard Shiva and his consort Parvati. Hindus worship the scared linga at Pasupati.

In late February or March the festival holi signifies the start of spring and people throw sacred red powder and water t each other.

In Mid-April the Nepalese Celebrate the New Year, the first day of the month of Baishak.There is a colorful festival named Bisket at Bhktapur.

In April or May Buddha Jayanti Purnima or Lord Buddha birthday is celebrated. Many Buddhists visit the holy Swayambhunath stupa.

In April or early may there is the wonderful Rato Machchendranath Rath Yatra, the god of rain and harvest.

The most interesting festival in September is the eight day Indra Jatra in Kathmandu.The Kumari the virgin goddess is worshipped.

The Dashain festival or Durga Puja is in Mid-October celebrates fertility and the victory of good over evil.

Diwali the festival of lights is celebrated in late October. It is commemorated to honor animals.
